Psych has some interesting twists and turns in this week’s episode of The Santa Barbarian Candidate. Though Shawn becoming a candidate for the Mayor election was speculated upon earlier, seeing him making a full-fledged campaign in the unfolding scenes of the episode was a big surprise.
The way Shawn managed the campaign showed his true potential, but on the personal front he did not seem to make any headway at all. When the two sides merge together, it would certainly be a spectacle to watch for.
The Founder Gala event proved to be a big success for Shawn, particularly the dance he had with Juliet but it also produced some undercurrents that may well have sabotaged all the efforts of Shawn and also Gus.
From the time of their split up, it has been a roller coaster ride as far as Juliet’s emotions were concerned. But her behavior also brought to light at what level she is regarding her relationship with Shawn.
Shawn had unwittingly admitted that he had not been truthful to Juliet, when he had chosen a man date with Gus over dance classes with her. But it turned out that he had actually shied away from attending the class because he had felt embarrassed.
Juliet reacts to this confession by abruptly ending the dance and disappearing. Her running away whenever he tries to convey his feelings threw some light on her true feelings for him. She must truly love Shawn to have turned tail when he had surprised her with his honesty. She still wants to put some distance between them on account of his lying about having psychic qualities. Whenever she finds her stand wavering, she runs away.
Though it was delightful to see her confess her love for Shawn, she was not ready for getting together with him. It is completely right for her to feel miffed, but her indecision seems to be a bit overboard when she loves him and wants to be with him.
Juliet warning Shawn about exposing him to the Chief showed how hard she tries to erect a barrier between them. But Shawn was not one to be ignored and he proved his mettle by telling Karen the true facts at the station. Juliet put herself in danger, when she tried to help which actually showed the true feelings she had for him. Juliet’s lie about the unlawfully gained evidence made the Chief angry and Juliet certainly was in deep trouble, but the situation showed how she felt about Shawn. The attitude of Chief Vick should certainly not be found fault with at this juncture, as she truly believed that Shawn had psychic powers.
